| 1899 signalled the start for Vandemoortele. What started out as a single factory in Izegem (Belgium), as a result of fresh initiatives and takeovers developed into what has become the dynamic Group the company is today. |
1899-1945 Founding and growth into national producer of bulk edible oils
The first factory was set up in 1899 by Constant Vandemoortele and his son Adhemar. The company grew from local manufacturer and supplier to the soap and cattle feed industries into a national producer of bulk edible oils. |

1946-1997 From national oil producer to European producer of oils and fats
The company expanded from being a national manufacturer of edible oils into a European producer of oils and fats (crude oils, refined oils, bottled oils, margarines, fats and mayonnaise). The creation of Vamix (1978) added a new segment to the Group, namely frozen bread and bakery products. And with the creation of Alpro in 1980, the company was able to guarantee expanded production of soy drinks and related products adding another important activity to the Group. |
1998-2008 Focus on and expansion of three activities
Vandemoortele focuses on packaged consumer goods. It closes down its upstream activities (crushing and refining) and its oil bottling and mayonnaise production activities (except for Belgian brands). The focus is on three core activities: Soy Foods, Lipids (margarines and fats) and Bakery. The acquisitions perfectly fit the strategy of expanding the core activities: Cottes France (artisan bread - 2004), Colombus Food Belgium (donuts - 2004), SoFine Foods the Netherlands (tofu and meat replacers - 2006), Erkens Bakkerijen the Netherlands (patisserie - 2006), Gourmand Poland (bread and pastries - 2007) and Panavi France (bread and pastries - 2008). |

2009-today Focus on business-to-business
Vandemoortele decides to focus on Bakery Products and Lipids and sells its Alpro soya division. In both Lipids and Bakery Products, Vandemoortele holds a leading position in Europe. Even more than before will the client be given an even more central position in the elaboration and execution of plans and projects.
